My name is Anton Zuiker.
For more than thirty years, I have fostered community at local, organizational, and international levels. I do this through communication tools, events programming, and strategic thinking, looking for and recognizing opportunity, finding partners, and giving others the tools to tell their stories.
My skills include a broad range of reporting, writing, public speaking, event planning, issues consulting and team building. I have excelled at new media and social networking strategies.
I value collaboration, community, conversation and narrative. I have traveled far and wide, learned to be observant of culture and place, and delighted in seeing ideas bloom.
Highlights of my work history follow.
Duke University Department of Medicine
Durham, NC June 2010 - ongoing Director of Communications
- I lead the innovative communications team of the largest department in the School of Medicine, part of a leading academic medical center and world-class university.
- We inform and champion our people in an efficient, open style that drives traffic to our site and attracts recruits to our training programs. We promote diversity and inclusion, elevate leadership communication, and record the rich legacy of internal medicine at Duke.
- My strategies, replicated by other departments, reflect the activities and accomplishments of the Department’s 4,000 leaders, faculty, trainees, staff, and alumni. Our MedicineNews framework and Duke River of News aggregator are considered best practice. I developed the Communications Strategic Plan 2020-2025 with an ambitious program to help the Department achieve its many goals.
- I created Voices of Duke Health, a workforce well-being project funded by the Duke Institute for Health Innovation. Our podcast was chosen by the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation as an inaugural Trust Practice Challenge winner, and given an honorable mention in the 2020 Awards of Achievement by the Association of American Medical Colleges (Group on Institutional Advancement).
